If modern rationalism makes man the measure of all things, theological anthropology discovers that the God-man is the measure of all things. Jesus Christ “is the center of the universe and of history.” The Word made flesh “fully reveals man to himself”—not by tyrannically asserting his divine perogatives (this would contradict the dignity of a creature made “for its own sake”), but by making the humble and sincere gift of himself to man. Man, in turn, discovers his rightful place in the universe when he freely receives and makes a “sincere gift” of himself back to God and to others.
